Seismic fragility analysis of coupled building‐slope systems

چکیده

Abstract Buildings located on hill slopes are subjected to additional effects under seismic action compared with those flat ground. This article presents Incremental Dynamic Analyses of coupled building‐slope systems incorporating topographic amplification, nonlinear slope movement and irregular structural configuration hill‐side buildings. Two different stable slopes, supporting single multiple adjacent ductile moment resisting reinforced concrete frame buildings step‐back configuration, prevalent in Indian Chinese hilly regions, modelled analyzed using the finite element software ABAQUS. A suite 21 ground motions is incrementally scaled used compute response system. Fragility curves for damage states, derived as lognormal probability distributions terms three Intensity Measures (IMs) probabilities considered buildings, compared. The spectrum‐based IMs (e.g., spectral acceleration at fundamental period, average over a period range) result lower record‐to‐record variability, peak IM. results reveal that ignoring effect significantly underestimates fragility all states.

Vibration analysis of coupled double-nanocomposite microplate-systems

The aim of the paper is to analyze electro-thermo nonlinear vibration of a double-piezoelectric composite microplate-system (DPCMPS) based on nonlocal piezoelasticity theory. The two microplates are assumed to be connected by an enclosing elastic medium which is simulated by Pasternak foundation. Both of smart composite microplates are made of poly-vinylidene fluoride (PVDF) reinforced by zigza...

Spectral evaluation of seismic fragility of structures

ABSTRACT: An approach for assessing the seismic fragility of inelastic structures is presented. In this approach, the structural response, which is evaluated from response spectra with an associated probability distribution, is compared with the performance limits states to assess fragility. Formulas that provide the probability distribution of spectral ordinates are developed based on the cros...

Fragility Surfaces as Measure of Seismic Performance

Fragility surfaces give the probability of failure for structural or non-structural systems as a function of two parameters, the earthquake magnitude and epicentral distance. These parameters provide a unique characterization of the ground motion. In contrast, the current characterization of the ground motion by a single parameter, e.g., the Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA), can be unsatisfactory...

Improved seismic fragility modeling from empirical data

The improved empirical fragility model addresses statistical dependence among observations of seismic performances, which arises from common but unknown factors influencing the observations. The proposed model accounts for this dependence by explicitly including common variables in the formulation of the limit state for individual components. Additionally, the fact that observations of the same...

Fragility Analysis of Structures Incorporating Control Systems

Dynamic hazards present a challenge to the structural designer. Structural control devices offer one effective approach to protect structures during these dynamic hazards. Various classes of control systems have been explored in recent years and have been demonstrated to be effective for reducing structural responses to extreme events. However, the design of advanced damping systems has not bee...
